Everything You Need to Know About Wi-Fi 6

share:

Wi-Fi is about to get much faster! That’s great as we consume more bandwidth-demanding apps, games, and videos with our laptops and phones.

 So what is Wi-Fi 6

Wi-Fi 6 is the next generation of Wi-Fi and basically it will still do the same thing which is connect you to the internet. Except with a bunch of additional technologies to make it happen more efficiently and increasing speed of connections in the process. Which is fantastic!

How is it different than the Wi-Fi I use today

It won’t feel massively different when you use it as Wi-Fi 6 is simply an upgraded standard that is designed to be compatible with the internet of the future, which accommodates the increasing number of connected devices that demand bandwidth and equal time on routers.

    • SpeedWi-Fi 6 is 9.6 Gbps, more than double the 3.5 Gbps you get with existing Wi-Fi 5. But in most use cases, that 9.6 Gbps is going to be shared across multiple devices within a network, giving each device a little bump instead of giving one device a giant bump.
    • Longer battery life – A new “target wake time” (TWT) feature means your smartphone and laptop should have longer battery life. Your access point can tell the device when to put its Wi-Fi radio to sleep, therefore the Wi-Fi radio can spend more time in sleep mode, which that means longer battery life!
    • Increased performance in crowded environments – This would not just apply to busy public areas. It could apply to you at home if you have a lot of devices connected to Wi-Fi, or even if you live in a dense office or accommodation such as flats.

How can I get it

The Wi-Fi 6 certification program officially started in the autumn, and a lot of compatible devices will be coming out soon after that. But you can get a Wi-Fi 6 compatible machine now, take a look at the HP EliteBook x360 1030 G4. You would also require a compatible home or business router to take advantage of the new technology.
