5 Ways to Create a Mobile Workforce

share:

Technology has made it much easier to be a mobile worker. With employees being major consumers of tech outside the office, businesses are working to keep up with the growing demand for tech for their employees.

Technology has created more options and better solutions for working remotely but there are some key areas you need to consider when you are creating a mobile workforce.

We have listed 5 things below to consider when you are making your workforce mobile.

1) Use the right tools

You must provide team members the right tools to perform their job effectively, in fact not doing so is a cause for great stress when done wrong.

Ensuring you have at least one of each of these tools is a great start

  • Chat
  • Collaboration
  • File sharing
  • Task management
  • Version control
  • Video conferencing
  • Credential Management
  • VOIP

There are some fantastic tools out there that can fulfil most of these requirements on subscription based licenses which enable you to flex up and down the workforce without forcing the business to spend unnecessarily.

2) Great communication

Following on from ensuring you have tools this point is to focus on ensuring you keep tight communication channels with the team. Not doing so can lead to missed opportunities and increased risk of the drift. Regular catch up calls are a great way to do this summarising what was done today, what you are doing tomorrow and if you have any issues.

3) Keep it secure

Working remotely is great but it does come with security issues. Remote workers will have access to your data so you need to make sure their devices are as secure as anything in the office would be. We would recommend ensuring all devices have the following capabilities

  • Full disk encryption – ensuring the device is encrypted to protect from loss or theft.
  • Password management – it is difficult to remember all your credentials in todays online world this helps protect individuals and the business.
  • Endpoint protection – this would be your anti-virus software/firewall software, you want one with holistic scanning that checks for behaviour of applications as virus definitions are just not enough.

4) Use the cloud

It almost goes without saying to focus on tools and systems that are cloud based. Simply put, the cloud is another way of saying the internet, but with one slight difference: it implies using a software service. The benefits of using these systems are as follows

  • Cost effective – due to subscription licenses pay only for what you use
  • Resilient – the vendor will host and ensure its always available around the world
  • Maintained – the vendor who hosts these platforms will ensuring its up to date at all times

5) Make it seamless with integration

When selecting tools its a good idea to ensure you can integrate the tools you use every day with each other. A reason for this is when repeat a task when it can be automated, information being passed from one system to another. We all know having to copy data from place to place can cause errors, remove the need to do this.
